Distractions of the Week - 1
Happy Monday! Here’s a selection of things I've been using to distract me from the fact that I don’t know what day of the week it is.
BOOK: What To Do When It’s Your Turn (and it’s always your turn) by Seth Godin
I was gifted this book a few years ago but put it on a shelf and forgot about it. But, desperate times call for opening old books, and boy was I impressed. It’s a super easy read filled with amazing graphic design, easy on the brain and on the eyes. That being said, it’s filled with inspiring content that will get you wanting to create and re-thinking everything you thought you knew. GREAT for getting you out of the extended at home retreat- slump!
COMPANY: Ellevest
Ellevest is a digital investment platform designed by women for women. It’s made for people with no knowledge about investments and allows you to set your investment priorities and goals as well as track your progress with no minimum investment quantity. In addition, it’s an online “magazine” where they post thought-provoking and informative articles about the business world for a female audience. Great thing to explore with the extra time on your hands!
DOCUMENTARY: Hillary on Hulu
I had high expectations from Hillary Clinton’s documentary series, but I can honestly say they were exceeded. It has a huge emphasis on the double-standards she’s faced throughout her career and doesn’t shy away from controversial topics she’s had to confront. Regardless of your political opinion, you’re pretty much guaranteed to walk out of the series with a huge amount of respect for her.
PODCAST: How I Built This
How I Built This interviews founders of really (really really) successful companies about how they got to where they are today. Some notable episodes include the founders of Rent The Runway, Allbirds, and Sweetgreen who have been featured on the show. The show as a whole is a true testament to the fact that there is no one “right” way to build a company.
INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT: @thefemalefoundercollective
I’ve been spending a good portion of my day on Instagram and have spent loads of time scrolling around and discovering new accounts. To add something a bit more productive to your feed, I highly recommend looking at @thefemalefoundercollective. They’re a network of female-founded businesses. They have the goal of empowering and promoting women in the business world to have a positive impact on our communities. Their Instagram highlights awesome women in their network and gives great tips on starting a business and navigating the business world.
